Paul's Case

Did Paul Make the Right Choice?

Answer this question by examining the character of Paul and the conflicts he experiences in the story. Give three logical reasons, and support them with quotes from the story. Be sure to consider Paul's background, the conflicts examined in the story, the reasons why Paul chose to commit suicide, and what you would have done in his situation.

After you have finished you blog, you will visit 2 other students and respond to what they have written. You will start your response with "I agree" and then add on to their arguements, or you will start with "I disagree" and give an arguement refuting their opinion. All responses MUST be respectful and well-supported.

Summary: The novel my "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult, is about a 13 year-old girl named Anna who is struggling for medical emancipitation. The only reason she was concieved was to be a bone marrow match for her older sister, Kate who has leukemia. Anna hasn't really lived, she has practically been living in her ill sister's shadow. This conflict is especially difficult, because she's dealing with family. Although, an unseen twist ruptures the balance and Anna is no longer in the picture.

Response: I believe that Anna should've be given medical emancipitation. To be her sister's donor is not the life she had chose or even wanted. If she doesn't have the will to donate her body to her sister, than she doesn't have to do it. I believe Anna's mother, Sara needed to move on and just accept reality. Kate wouldn't have lived a full life despite all her mother's attempts. She was just fooling herself, and at the same time she was putting Anna in danger and disabling her for no beneficiary reason. In the end, Anna's life hadn't really changed, only ended.
